Getting Started with Alfresco Development
June 22, 2016
I put together a presentation to help developers start working with Alfresco technologies. I gave the presentation at both Alfresco Day New York in February, and Alfresco Day San Francisco in June. The presentation seemed to be helpful, so I recorded it as the Alfresco Tech Talk Live for June. Here is a direct link to the YouTube recording.
The Product Vision for Community Edition
April 29, 2016
BeeCon is the community organized Alfresco conference. In this presentation I shared our approach to differentiating the open source Alfresco Community Edition from the proprietary products that form the financial basis for our business.
Most of the content for the presentation comes from this blog post at Alfresco.com (if it ever disappears you can reference this PDF). The session listing has a link to download the slide deck.
Discussion at the Copenhagen Meetup
November 5, 2014
I had the pleasure of attending the Copenhagen Meetup and hosting a casual discussion about various Alfresco related themes. This slide deck was used to organize the conversation.
Building Content Solutions
October 18, 2013
I gave a talk at CodeMotion in Madrid. It's the same talk I had previously given with minor updates.
Solving Business Problems with Content-as-a-Service
May 4, 2013
I had the opportunity to speak at the Kansas City Developer Conference. My topic was the Alfresco Public API. I started with the CMIS presentation I used previously, and merged it with Jeff's slides on OAuth, the Public API, and a Python demo. I'm happy with the result.

Alfresco Featured Add-ons
November 2012 through present
I have been creating reviews of Alfresco Add-ons. Each review consists of an article and a short YouTube video. The list is at addons.alfresco.com
Getting Help with Alfresco
For Alfresco DevCon 2012, I organized the lighting talks. We experimented with Ignite Style talks, and had some classical talks as well. All the recordings that worked, and all of the slides, are available through my DevCon 2012 speaker page. The recording in Berlin missed my presentation, but it was mostly identical to what I presented in San Jose (embedded here). I had a battery problem in the middle of the second Berlin session (arg).
Alfresco Add-Ons: Editor's Pick
I presented on Alfresco Add-ons at Alfresco DevCon 2012 in both Berlin and San Jose. I was in the closing round of sessions and was pretty frazzled due to my running the Lightning Talks immediately before, as well as my other administrative responsibilities at the conference. Hopefully that isn't as evident to other people that watch the video as it was to me. The Berlin presentation had me make some demo mistakes, and the San Jose presentation was interrupted by an embarrassing hardware problem. It was hard to decide which of the two to put here; I went with San Jose presentation as the pointer failure seemed like a huge interruption on stage, but isn't as big a deal in the video. Slides are available at the DevCon link above.
A Content Management Primer: What I Wish I Knew
July 27, 2012
I gave this presentation in Porto Alegre, Brazil at the International Free Software Forum (FISL13). It is basically the same presentation as the one I was giving in Portuguese.
Padrões de Gerenciamento de Conteúdo
This is my second presentation from my tour of the Alfresco community in Brazil. This presentation is based on my presentation below about architecting content-centric applications. This was my first technical presentation in Portuguese, and the audience was very patient with my accent and helped me make some corrections.
Aprendendo sobre o Alfresco
I had the opportunity to lead a round of Alfresco Meet-ups in the Brazilian cities of São Paulo, Brasília, and Rio de Janeiro. Each meeting had two presentations. This one is about how to learn about Alfresco, focusing on Portuguese language resources.
Thoughts on the Community Leadership Summit
July 15, 2012
I really enjoyed my opportunity to attend the Community Leadership Summit. Near the end of the unconference the Kaltura guys pulled me aside to share my opinion of the event and discuss what it means to manage a community. It was a nice conversation. I look forward to hanging out with them in the future.
Turning Your Mobile Device into a Content Workhorse
February 22, 2012
I presented in the mobile solutions track of the HIMSS12 conference in Las Vegas. The presentation discusses how a back-end content server like Alfresco can make mobile devices far more productive for business users.
I assembled the presentation on short notice from slides provided by my team at Alfresco as well as Alfresco partners. I believe we had all the necessary rights. I am grateful for the help of Alfresco partners Zia Consulting, Reva Solutions, and Micro Strategies in preparing the presentation.
Architecting Content-Centric Applications
February 8, 2012
I presented to my buddies at the Provo Linux User Group. This presentation was adapted from Jeff Pott's presentations and webinars. It was a practice run for future presentations I needed to give.
Alfresco QuickTake: 5 Tools Alfresco Provides Developers
At an Alfresco event I was stopped in the hall and asked to record a brief video introducing developers to Alfresco. It took more tries than I expected.
Technology Cooperatives: An Open Source Business Model
October 8, 2009
I presented at the Utah Open Source Conference 2009 on the topic of technical cooperatives. My blog posts on this topic under the tag cooperatives.
